Repair your nose and feel better.
Your plastic surgeon along with your anesthesiologist will suggest the best choice for you in terms of either intravenous sedation or general anesthesia.
The surgery is performed using either an open or closed approach. During the open approach, the incision is made across the columella, the strip of skin that separates the two nostrils. A closed approach involves a hidden incision made inside the nose.
If the septum is deviated, the corrective measures are taken place to straighten it. The projections inside the nasal structure are reduced in order to improve breathing.
When the correction is completed, the soft tissue and skin covering the nose are redraped and the incision is closed. More incisions may be made in addition in the natural cease of the nostrils in order to modify their size (if appropriate).
Within a week of the surgery, results should be evident. Some patients report immediately breathing better but others require healing first. For the first week after surgery in order to help the nose heal, internal tubes or splints may be used support the nasal structure. The initial swelling should settle within the first few weeks but could take up to a few months to experience better breathing.

What is a septoplasty?
Septoplasty is a reconstruction of the nasal airway with goal of better airflow in patients with nasal airway obstruction.
What is nasal reconstruction?
Rebuilding or reconstruction of the nose may be required due to severe damage to the nose from previous poor rhinoplasty results, but more commonly from trauma, dog bites, or skin cancer.
Does insurance cover this procedure?
Usually yes as long as the reconstruction is medically required. We will work with you to get authorization for your surgery and will explain the insurance process during your consultation.
Nasal reconstructive procedures describe procedures on the nose that are focused on restoration and the correction of nasal issues. These issues are usually related to breathing problems that step from a problem with the nasal airway. The cause of the nasal problem could be congenital or the issues could be a result of an injury or accedient. Additionally, while considered a cosmetic self pay procedure unlike other nasal reconstructions, nasal reconstruction may occur after multiple cosmetic surgeries of the nose due to the complexity.
Patients often ask if nose surgery is ever covered by insurance. The answer is that it depends on the reason and type of nose surgery required.
Rhinoplasty surgery is focused on improving the outward appearance of the nose and is solely a cosmetic surgical procedure. Septoplasty surgery is focused on correcting airway related nasal issues and is many times a procedure that can be covered by health insurance.
Frequently, rhinoplasty and septoplasty procedures are combined into one surgery so that both goals – one cosmetic and the other medical- can be achieved in one surgery.
